Innova Starfire Review: All Things You Need to Know

Innova-Starfire-Review---Discgolflife

Regarding consistent and more dependable distance drivers, it would be remiss not to mention the Innova Starfire.

One of the most significant benefits of this disc is providing a lot of fades and glides that you can take advantage of for massive distance drives.

From the first throw, it was not hard for me to realize that the Innova Starfire is a disc I would love.

This model is so overstable, so I could throw several strong forehand drives and did not have to worry about losing control of this disc or not making it fade back.

I’ll help you understand this disc better in the rest of this Innova Starfire Review. So keep reading to see more!

Overview of the Innova Starfire

The Starfire is one of Innova's pride.
The Starfire is one of Innova’s pride.

I’m not sure how popular the Innova Starfire is, but it’s my best friend. It opens up the kinds of shots I can throw from the tee. When I have thrown a powerful hyzer out, it has consistently faded back throughout travel.

This disc is a 10-speed model, so I believe it is not for beginners unless they already have great control and arm speed.

But if you are playing and want to upgrade speed, you can’t go wrong with the Starfire disc. It will increase the distance and lower the scores.

Innova Starfire Features

Plastic Types

This golf disc is available in many molds, including GStar Starfire, DX Starfire, Champion Starfire, Star Starfire, and Pro Starfire.

GStar Starfire

GStar is a premium plastic that is less stable and softer than other high-end ones. It is comparable to Champion or Star plastic.

The biggest advantage of this plastic is that it can retain its flight path and form for longer than Pro and DX discs.

DX Starfire

For Innova Starfire, the DX models are available at almost all of its available weights and disc models. The DX Starfire is the cheapest plastic of Innova and features excellent grip in most conditions.

On the downside, discs made from this plastic are less durable and prone to damage from hitting any obstacle, such as trees.

Champion Starfire

The Champion mold is the premium plastic made by Innova. These Champion-plastic discs are extremely firm, long-lasting, and also overstable.

They can withstand abuse from obstacles, such as rocks or trees while retaining flight characteristics. This material is robust, so it is less soft and flexible.

Star Starfire

This option is one of the premium plastics from Innova. It has a reputation for being durable, grippy, and consistent.

The Star Starfire plastic disc is more durable than the Champion plastic, which is more expensive. But it will keep its shape in both warm and cold weather.

Pro Starfire

The Pro line is produced with a superior plastic than their basic mold, resulting in better performance and longer life.

When talking about the durability of DX and Pro plastic, it’s clear that the Pro Line models are more durable. The Pro discs tend to be less expensive and glide farther than premium Star and Champion discs.

Available Weights

The weight of the Innova Starfire ranges from 150 grams to 175 grams, with a minimum of 150 grams and a maximum of 175 grams.

Best Throws for the Innova Starfire

Regarding the Innova Starfire, here are the best throws for most players:

  • Accurate
  • Headwind

Accurate

Some discs are more accessible to control than others, and the Innova Starfire can easily be thrown and maneuvered for accurate distances and lines. You won’t have trouble keeping the disc on the fairway or heading toward the basket.

Headwind

Headwinds involve the wind direction pushing towards the disc, making it to be less stable and usually lifted slightly.

But this disc will work well when you throw it into any headwind situation. It is a great option to throw at where there is a lot of wind, as it is not affected as much during the flight.

Starfire Turn And Stability

This disc is great for golfers who have much power and prefer their disc to go from right to left for one right-handed backhand throw.

Which Players Should Use the Innova Starfire?

This disc is not ideal for newer players and beginners.

As a distance driver, this disc has a flat and sharp rim that can fly farther than another type of disc. It requires more technique and power.

This disc has an intermediate rating, which is excellent for disc golfers with previous practice and experience. Newer players and beginners could learn to throw this disc type, but it will be a bit challenging initially.
