Innova Invictus Review: Overview, Main Specifications & Plastic Types

Innova Invictus Review

Finding a disc you can throw and control in the wind is not easy, even daunting, for the inexperienced. Yet, it is where the Innova Invictus shines.

If you have played with Innova discs before, you may have heard about the Innova Firebird. The Invictus is quite similar to Firebird in ratings and flight, and many believe it is faster than Firebird.

Through this Innova Invictus review, you will understand everything about this disc. So keep reading to see more!

Overview of the Innova Invictus

Invictus is one of the best Innova distance drivers.
Invictus is one of the best Innova distance drivers.

It is easy to throw hard this 10-speed driver with a massive amount of glide on the disc. Also, it is very overstable, which is one of the main reasons I prefer throwing this disc for forehand drives.

Like with the Innova Firebird, it will have a hard finish and consistent fade toward the end of each flight in most cases. During testing, I noticed that this disc tends to hook massively on any straight and hyzer throw.

Yet, I must confess that the Innova Invictus isn’t one of the most comfortable discs I have thrown. The rim is sharper and smaller than I can enjoy utilizing.

This disc is excellent for sidearms, but the rough rim can make it a bit more difficult to control as well as gain a clean, nice release.

Plastic Types

GStar

This disc golf is available in two molds: GStar Invictus and Star Invictus.

It is a premium plastic that is less stable and softer than other high-end materials. It is comparable to Champion or Star plastic which has been utilized and beaten before.

One of the most significant advantages of this plastic is that it will retain its flight path and form for longer than Pro or DX discs.

Star

The Star plastic will give your disc the excellent durability of the Champion plastic while delivering more overall grip. This option is similar to the Pro line for grip and comfort but seems more firm.

This plastic is used to make most Innova discs as it is durable, works well in all weather, and is cheaper than their premium plastics.

Available Weights

The Invictus disc weighs somewhere between 165 grams and 175 grams.

The weight of the Invictus ranges from 165 grams to 175 grams.

Best Throws for the Innova Invictus

Here are the most popular and best throws for most players when using the Innova Invictus:

  • Headwind
  • Hyzer
  • Distance
  • Forehand

Headwind

Headwind refers to the wind’s direction toward your disc (or you).

The disc will perform well when thrown into any headwind situation. It makes the Innova Invictus less stable and typically lifts this disc slightly.

As an overstable disc, it will be a great option at a place with a lot of wind as it is not affected as much within the flight.

Hyzer

Hyzer involves the release angle for right-handed backhand throwers, with the left edge or outside edge tilted downward.

We all know that discs released with a hyzer will travel to the left more quickly than those thrown flat. So if you want the disc to go further to the left, we recommend using more hyzer.

Distance

This disc type will push you in the proper direction to reach your maximum distance off the tee. When talking about increasing how far your disc can be thrown, it is wise to look for a glide number and high speed.

Forehand

The overstable disc will deliver much grip in your hand, making it ideal for sidearm throws.

An excellent forehand requires a clean spin and release, and the Innova Invictus disc features a wide rim that allows you to make a powerful, strong throw.

Turn And Invictus Stability

The Innova Invictus is an overstable disc, meaning it is designed to resist “Hyzering out,” or turning over, during flight.

So it is safe to say that this disc will work best for players with powerful throws or who want to shape shots around a tree or other obstacles.

Which Players Should Utilize the Innova Invictus?

This disc features an advanced skill level rating, meaning it is more challenging to get the most out of or control.

Newer players or beginners usually will not have enough arm speed to throw this disc as it was designed to perform.

On the other hand, advanced players who have played various rounds and have decent experience with other discs will have enough control to throw and manage this disc.
